Red tape stalls investigations

The complaints about bribery and corruption against political and white-collar bigwigs of the previous regime have been piling up at the Bribery and Corruption Commission ever since the Maithri government took office.

However, investigations into some complaints have run into a red tapist snag typical of the ways of the officialdom: the department of Inland Revenue has refused to make available to the Commission the vital data in income tax files relating to certain individuals facing sleaze allegations saying that they could comply with such requests only on a court order.

So it is no wonder that the ordinary people in the country fail to see any worthwhile progress in the investigations into complaints is being made by the Commission!
