Union Assurance partnered with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts to distribute over 3,000 meals to people impacted by the inclement weather as part of Cinnamon’s 'Meals that Heal' community project. Amidst the ongoing fight against the pandemic, extreme weather events have impacted over 200,000 individuals across 10 districts in the country. The distribution of meals to displaced communities was conducted in collaboration with the Disaster Management Centre and the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD).

Commenting on the initiative, Jude Gomes, the Chief Executive Officer of Union Assurance stated, “We pledged to provide 3,000 meals to those displaced as a result of the floods, to offer some redress for those families living in difficult conditions. We are pleased to have partnered with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts on this initiative to offer much needed support to our communities in need.”

Meals were distributed on three consecutive days, from 9th to 11th June, in Thunadahena, Pahala Bomiriya, Kothalawala, Welivita, and Welihinda of the Kaduwela municipality, and Panaluwa, Wataraka, and Atigala East of the Homagama DS Division – areas severely impacted by flooding.

“Guided by one of our core values of caring for our people and our communities, ‘Meals that Heal’ is a programme that we are proud to initiate, as an effort to make a difference to our communities by helping them recover and rebuild as we navigate through these challenging times, together.
