106th National Tennis Championship Anjalika, Kiran bag Under 18 titles

Anjalika Kurera and Kiran Vairawanathan bagged the  Under 18 Girls and Boys singles titles respectively at the 106th National Tennis Championship with wins over Saajida Razick and Thehan Wijemanne in the finals played at the SLTS tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

In the Girls Under 16 singles event, Hasali Gajaba came on top with an easy win over Vishmi Serasinghe to advance to the final. The quarter-finals of the Boys Under 16’s saw Zaidh Zihar, Thilina Dissanayaka, Vichinthya Nilaweera and Anujaya Abeywickrama winning their matches to book berths to the semi-finals.

The championship will be continued today.

Finals: Girls Under 18 – Anjalika Kurera beat Saajida Razick 2-1 (6/3, 1/6,3/11).
Boys Under 18 – Kiran Vairawanathan beat Thehan Wijemanne 2-1 (1/6, 7/5(5), 10/8).
Quarter-Finals: Singles: Boys Under 16 – Zaidh Zihar beat Nishitha Goonetileke 2-0 (6/3, 7/6(0).  Thilina Dissanayake beat Tharuk Marasinghe 2-0 (6/2, 6/1). Vichinthya Nilaweera beat Heshika Perera 2-0 (6/2, 6/1). Anujaya Abeywickrama beat Methwan Wijemanna 2-1 (6/7z95), 6/2, 10/3).
Semi-Finals: Girls Under 16 – Hasali Gajaba beat Vishmi Serasinghe 2-0 (6/3, 6/4).
