Apna Perera and Methwan Wijemanne qualified for the Men’s Open final of the 109th National Tennis Championship when they came out on top in the two semi-finals played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo, yesterday.
In the first semi-final, Apna coasted to an easy two sets to nil win over Thehan Wijemanne, while the second semi-final between Methwan, who clinched the Under-18 title a few days ago, and Ganuka Fernando went to the wire, with Methwan emerging victorious by two sets to one.
Meanwhile, in two other semi-finals of the Girls’ Under-12 event, which were played concurrently, Jennifer Mercy and Sahansa Damsiluni qualified for the final by recording wins against Risindi Hewawasam and Sanuthi Wong by identical winning margins of two sets to nil.
The Girls’ Under-12 final is scheduled to be played today, and the Men’s Open final is slotted to be played tomorrow.
