2019 Presidential Sports Awards to be held in March

First meeting of the Presidential Sports Awards Committee (2019)

On a directive by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa the 2019 Presidential Sports Awards is to be held in March this year. The event was not held earlier due to the Covid 19 pandemic.   
This ceremony will be held under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.   


Outstanding sportsmen and women who excelled at national and international level during the period January 1 to December 31 2019 will be considered for the upcoming Sports Presidential Awards.   


There are 65 registered sports bodies with the Ministry from which 50 awards will be presented.   


Saman Amarasinghe was the key organiser of this Awards ceremony. His death last year caused a void which has been filled by an experienced Administrator Nalin Atigala. He will be assisted by a 20-member selection committee.
