54th Saints Quadrangular on September 29 and 30

The much looked forward event between the four leading catholic schools in the island St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena, St Anthony’s College, Katugastota, St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya and St. Joseph’s Colombo conducted with camaraderie between the past students of the four institutions is scheduled to be held on September 29 and 30 in four venues around the metropolis.

The Saints Quadrangular which is the 54th in the series will see the old boys of the four schools battling it each other in three disciplines comprising two cricket tournaments being the main quadrangular and the over 40’s, basketball and rugger tournaments.

This time out Old Benedictines SC is the host of the Saints Quadrangular and arrangements have been finalized to conduct the cricket tournaments scheduled to be played at Darley Road and the final is slotted to be played on the second day at Kotahena.

The basketball tournament on both days will be conducted at St. Benedict’s courts in Kotahena with the third place clash scheduled to be played at 2.30 p.m. and the final at 4.00 p.m. The rugby 7’s will be played at St. Peter’s ground.

The champion team of the over 40’s will receive the championship trophy and the runner up the Premanath Morais Memorial Trophy and individual awards for the best batsman, bowler, fielder and man of the series is also on offer.

The basketball champions will receive the Very Rev. Fr. Joe. E. Wickramasinghe Trophy while individual awards for the best defensive player, best offensive player and most valuable player is also on offer.The champion and runner up will receive trophies and also the award for the player of the tournament.

The overall championship will receive the Ranjith Samarasekera Memorial Trophy who was a distinguished old boy of St. Anthony’s was a live wire of the Saints Quadrangular when it began in the late sixties.

Old Peterites are the defending champions as they won the two cricket tournaments and the basketball tournaments while the Old Josephians SC bagged the rugby 7’s title. (M. Shamil Amit)
