75th Independence Day National Cycling Tour to flag off from Point Pedro

The Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) and the Ministry of Sports have made all arrangements to start the 75th Independence National Cycling Tour from Point Pedro to Devundarathuduwa (Dondra) tomorrow at 9.00am.


A total of Rs 2.6 million in prize money will be awarded to the winner of this four-day Independence National Cycling Tour held over a distance of 551.8 km until February 3.
This is the biggest prize money awarded to the winners of a cycling race in Sri Lanka under state sponsorship.


More than 150 Elite and U-23 Men’s riders classified by CFSL have entered for this cycling tour which is the first national cycling competition in 2023. The overall winner will receive Rs. 750,000, second place Rs. 500,000 and third place Rs. 250,000. In addition, the organizers will be awarding cash prizes from the fourth place to the 25th place.


Meanwhile, each stage winner will receive Rs 20,000, second place Rs 15,000 and third place Rs 10,000. In addition, Rs. 50,000 will be awarded to Overall Sprint Winner and Rs. 25,000 to the King of Mountain.


The first stage of this Cycling Tour is from Point Pedro to Medawachchiya (136.7km), the second stage on February 1 is from Medawachchiya to Mahiyangana (164.3mm), the third stage on February 2 is from Mahiyangana to Wellawaya (102.6km) and the last stage on February 3 is from Wellawaya (148.2) to Devundarathuduwa.


The National Cycling Tour has been organized under the supervision of the Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry of Public Administration On the occasion of Sri Lanka’s 75th Independence Day.
