Abeykoon, Ratnayake exit after round one at World Athletic Championships

Out of the three Sri Lankans participating in the 18th World Athletic Championships being held in Oregon, the United States, Yupun Abeykoon and Nilani Ratnayake made an exit after the first round of competition.

Abeykoon clocked 10.19 seconds in the 100m to finish fifth in his heat, while Ratnayake finished 13th after returning a time of 9 minutes 54.10 seconds in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase.

Abeykoon has a personal best of 9.96s, while Ratnayake’s best performance is 9:46.76.
Gayanthika Abeyratne is set to take part in the women’s 800m event on July 21.
