Aelian Gunawardene elected uncontested as President of SLBF

The Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) filled its vacant President’s post, with Aelian Gunawardene being elected uncontested at a Special General Meeting conducted via Zoom on Sunday. 

Thushara Suraweera, past captain of the national youth team in 1990 was elected as the Treasurer during the SGM.

A media release issued by the SLBF said: “Good governance would be priority number one in his agenda and went on to state that there had been some allegations of malpractices made against the federation and or office bearers which should be cleared urgently.”

Gunawardene will also work towards setting up a court for SL basketball in Colombo and discussions are in progress to be allocated a suitable plot of land where this could be set up to an international standard, the statement also said.
