Air Force SC put in a superb display of rugby in the second half after trailing 6-19 to pull off a stunning 30 points to 22 win over CH & FC in the Nippon Lanka Rugby League inter-club tournament encounter played at the Air Force ground in Ratmalana yesterday.

Air Force SC was in full command in the second half as they posted 24 points while restricting their opponents to just three points. Air Force SC in the process made up their points through three goals a drop goal and two penalties against two goals a try and a penalty scored by CH & FC.

The Maitland Place club spearheaded by the Rajapaksa brothers Yoshitha and Rohitha gave the side the much needed booster with flanker Yoshitha scoring back to back tries. Rohitha booted over the two conversions to provide them with a 14-0 lead but the lead was short-lived as the Airmen succeeded to decrease it off a drop goal and penalty booted by centre Nuwan Perera.

But CH took the lead back from an unconverted try by centre Janidu Dilshan which stood the score at breather 19-6 in favour of CH.

The turnaround saw Rohitha Rajapaksa booting over a penalty midway in the second session to increase CH’s lead and that was all that the CH could do as from there on it was Air Force all the way.

The Airmen ran circles round the CH defence and had their opponents in tatters and succeeded to score three tires first by fly half Ishara Madushan followed by a substitute and winger Isuru Jayaratne and centre Nuwan Perera who made no mistake with the three conversions to give them a well deserving winning start.
