All-Island School Games to be revived after two years

The Ministry of Education has decided to conduct the All-Island School Games, which have not been held for the last two years. The zonal competition will begin before May 15.


The All-Island School Games were not held in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic that affected many students who aspired to gain national recognition.


Due to the prevailing situation in the country, the All-Island School Games will be held in three stages, according to a circular issued by the Education Ministry to provincial education departments, a senior ministry official told the ‘Daily Mirror’.


According to that schedule, the zonal events should be completed before May 15 and the provincial competitions should be held from June 1 to September 10.


Stage one of the All Island School Games will be held from September 17 to 19, stage two from September 23 to 26, and stage three from October 1 to 4, according to the circular.


The All-Island School Games will comprise 32 disciplines. The track and field athletic championships will take place from November 22-26 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo or the Mahinda Rajapakse Sports Complex in Diyagama. Team events and other competitions will be held in and around Colombo.
