All Island Schools Games begin on September 16

The All Island Schools Games (AISG) 2023 Stage one conducted by the Ministry of Education will start from September 16.
Physical Education competitions will be started in Kandy and 11 other sports – beach volleyball, carom, wrestling, softball cricket, weightlifting, taekwondo, judo, netball, gymnastic and tennis – are scheduled to be held until September 22.


The Ministry of Education has taken steps to implement AISG Stage two from September 22-25.


The number of sports included in at that stage is ten, namely, boxing, swimming, leather ball cricket, kabbadi, rugby, wushu, gymnastics, throwball and handball.
Twelve sports including athletics, hockey, volleyball, elle, table tennis, badminton, basketball, chess, cycling, karate, football and mini marathon are planned to be held from October 7-27 in Stage three.


A total of 32 sports will be held under AISG.


The Ministry of Education says that nearly 35,000 school athletes will participate from Education Zonal Level to National Level.
