Promising Sri Lankan short distance runner Amasha de Silva will leave for Trinidad and Tobago in a couple of days’ time on a scholarship presented by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL).
Secretary of the NOCSL Maxwell de Silva said that the two-month scholarship for Amasha was presented while targeting the 2023 Asian Games in China and the 2024 Olympic Games in France.
The NOCSL will be funding a sum of Rs. 5 million on this scholarship, which will include a specialised training programme on short distance competitions.
Amasha is a past pupil of Mahamaya College, Kandy and is a second-year undergraduate at the Sri Jayewardenepura University.
Amasha has been competing at international meets since 2018 and won the Silver Medal in the 100m and 200m events at the Asian Senior Athletics Championship held in Japan in 2018.
In addition, she has won several short distance events at Asian Regional Meets and at the South Asian Games.
