Army Corporal arrested for cruelty towards stepdaughter

An Army corporal was taken into custody by the Meegoda Police yesterday after he had inflicted harm on his nine-year-old stepdaughter.

The victim was promptly referred to the JMO Homagama Base Hospital for necessary medical examination and treatment.  

Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was the husband of the girl’s mother in her second marriage, had brutally beaten the child as punishment for speaking with a group of his rivals and failing to disclose the interaction. Disturbed neighbours, witnessing this abusive act, intervened by confronting and physically assaulting the suspect at the scene.  

The suspect was to be produced before Homagama Magistrate.
