Army SC cruised through to the semi final of the Nippon Paint Clifford Cup knockout rugby tourney when they pulled off a crushing 39 points to 17 win over Havelock SC in the quarter final encounter played at Longden Place today.
Army SC having taken a comfortable 19-7 lead at the breather accumulated their points through three goals, three tries and a penalty to a goal and two tries scored by Havelock SC.
The first session saw Army SC having things their own way as they scored at will with Thirusha Adhikaram, Ashan Bandara and Nalan Premaratne going over for a try each and Chamath Fernando booting over two of these to take a comfortable lead and Havelock SC in reply was able to score the only one try with Ramesh Fernando going over and Janith Chandimal making the conversion before the short whistle was blown.
On resumption, Army SC continued their domination as they increased the lead with Sudaraka Dikkumbura going over for an unconverted try while Havelock SC reduced their deficit from back-to-back tries scored by Randy Silva and Fartham Fazi.
Army SC undeterred continued to put their opponents under pressure as they sealed the game with ease to put the issue beyond by tries scored by Dilshan Perera who also made the conversion and Mohamed Rifan to pull off a convincing 39-17 victory. By M. Shamil Amit / Pix by: Kushan Pathiraja
