Asia-Oceania Group IV Tennis Sri Lanka begin campaign on winning note

The opening day’s proceedings of the Asia-Oceania Group IV tennis which got underway at the SLTA clay courts at Greenpath, Colombo yesterday saw Sri Lanka starting off their campaign on a winning note with a convincing three sets to nil win over Bangladesh in a Group ‘A’ encounter.   


Sri Lanka’s win came in two singles event achieved by Yasitha de Silva and Harshana Gadamanna who defeated Ranjan Ram and Mohammad Rubel Hossain by two sets to nil and the doubles partners Chathurya Niilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne recording a two set win over Bangladesh pair Mohammad Kwsar Ali and Mohammad Juel Rana.

In two other matches that were played which was in the Group ‘B’ segment saw Iraq recording a comfortable three sets to nil win over Brunei and Yemen defeating Maldives by two sets one.

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh 3-0
Singles - Yasitha de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Ranjan Ram (Bangladesh) 2-0 (6/1, 6/0). Harshana Godamanna (Sri Lanka) beat Mohammad Rubel Hossain (Bangladesh) 2-0 (6/1, 6/3)  
Doubles – Chathurya Nilaweera/Thehan Wijemanne (Sri Lanka) beat Mohammad Kwsar Ali/Mohammad Juel Rana (Bangladesh) 2-0 (6/0, 6/1).   
Iraq beat Maldives 3-0
Singles – Abdullah Ali Ghrairi beat Kee-Loong Wong 2-0 (6.4, 6/2). Adil Mustafa Al-Saedi beat Aman Abdullah 2-0 (6/1, 6/4) 
Doubles – Mohammad Al Shammari/Abdullah Ali Ghrairi beat Chung Peng Lim/Yeung Kok Lim 2-0 (6/0, 6/0)  
Yemen beat Maldives 2-1
Singles – Alham Shiyam (Maldives) beat Haill Sallam (Yemen) 2-0 (6/4, 6/3). Ghassan Alansi (Yemen) beat Abdullah Faah Fazeel (Maldives) 2-0 (6/4, 6/4) 
Doubles – Ghassan Alansi/Haill Sallam (Yemen) beat Mohamed Fazeel/Hussain Naseef (Maldives) 2-0 (6/4, 6/2)
