The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) has decided to conduct a selection trial to pick the squad for the 21st Asian Men’s Senior Volleyball Championship, at the Volleyball House indoor stadium in Galle tomorrow.
The tournament, organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), will be held in the Japanese cities of Chiba and Funabashi from September 12-19.
Sixteen countries have qualified to take part in this competition. Sri Lanka booked their spot by defeating Uzbekistan 3-0 in the Central Asian qualifier held at the Sugathadasa Stadium recently.
SLVB picked a 20-member national pool ahead of the match against Uzbekistan but hope to select more talent following the selection trials on July 20, according to SLVB vice president C. Ratnamudali. After the expansion, SLVB hopes to commence training on August 1.
The top two teams in this tournament will qualify for the 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in Russia.
Pool A: Japan, India, Qatar, Bahrain
Pool B: Iran (ranked first in Asia), Pakistan, Thailand, Hong Kong
