Sri Lanka Women’s captain Chamari Atapattu struck a 54-ball unbeaten century, guiding the Falcons Women to an eight-wicket win over the Warriors Womens in the opening match of the FairBreak International Tournament in Dubai on Wednesday.

Opening the batting with New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, Atapattu hit 13 boundaries and five sixes, the last of which took the Falcons across the line, chasing a target 178, with 14 balls to spare.

Earlier, Australia’s Georgia Redmayne top scored with 80 for the Warriors Women, with West Indian Hayley Matthews also scoring a half-century.

The 90 players from 35 countries participating in this tournament have no display of numbers on their shirts.
“Yes, the players’ shirts have names and country flags instead of numbers”, R. Venkatesh, the Tournament Director, speaking exclusively over the telephone from Dubai, said.

“This showcases the names of countries participating and also shows the players as individuals. This shows the global footprint of the tournament”, he added.

The players’ kits are made of recyclable plastic or black hemp. “These two are sustainable materials. This is consistent with our policy of being conscious about wastage and degradation issues and ensuring that we promote sustainability”, Venkatesh signed off.
