The Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has taken significant steps to ensure the highest standards in boxing by forming four new commissions in alignment with the constitution of the International Boxing Association (IBA).
These commissions aim to promote best practices among referees and judges, enhance the quality of coaches, encourage diversity with the participation of women, and prioritize safety aspects with the involvement of medical personnel.
Following a directive from the International Boxing Association (IBA), the BASL constitution was amended during its Annual General Meeting on May 28, 2023.
The amendments were made to comply with the regulations set by the IBA, the global governing body for the sport of boxing.
Consequently, the BASL Executive Committee made the decision to suspend all activities of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Boxing Coaches Association (SLBCA), with immediate effect.
In their place, the BASL has appointed new commissions to oversee these crucial aspects of the sport. According to the BASL constitution, the Executive Committee has nominated a Chairman and six members for each commission to oversee their activities for the years 2023 and 2024.
The appointments were made after careful consideration of individuals with outstanding credentials and a deep understanding of the sport.
