The Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/Softball Association (SLABSA) resumed their development activities as they conducted three teacher training programmes in the Central Province, recently.
The programmes were carried out with the blessings of the World Baseball/Softball Confederation, sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC SL).
The teacher training programmes were successfully held on September 23, 24 and 25in three educational zones in the Central Province; namely, Kandy, Wilgamuwa (Laggala) and Matale, and saw the active participation of over 150 coaches, Sports Officers, Physical Training Instructors (PTIs), and teachers, who displayed great interest in learning about baseball which was a new sport for many of the attendees.
All participants were awarded certificates for taking part in the programme.
SLABSA envisions to take the game to every district in the island and they see the development of coaches as integral to achieving that target. SLABSA hope to conduct further such programmes around Sri Lanka in the coming months.
