Sri Lanka bowed out of contention when they went down to Uzbekistan 2-1 in the deciding Pool ‘A’ match of the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Asia- Oceania Group 2 women’s tennis tournament at the Central Stadium in Dushanbe Tajikistan yesterday.
The battle was for the slot to confront Mongolia who came out on top in Pool ‘B’ to decide the team that will be promoted.
Uzbekistan put themselves in the box seat by winning the two singles encounters and the doubles encounter was of academic interest even though Sri Lanka’s pair Janali Manamperi and Rukhshika Wijesooriya pulled off a comfortable two sets to nil victory.
