Buwaneka Goonetileke won the Men’s Singles title for the first time at the 69th National Badminton Championship played at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
He beat Viren Nettasinghe 21-17, 9-21, 21-16 in the final encounter.
In addition to the Singles, he also teamed-up with Sachin Dias to win the Men’s Doubles, defeating Viren Nettasinghe and Rasindu Hendahewa 21-16, 21-17.
Meanwhile the Women’s Singles final between Kavindi Sirimannage and Dilmi Dias ended in a walkover for the latter after Sirimannage had to pull out from the game due to a leg injury during the first round.
Thulith Palliyaguru and Buthmi Galagamage received a walk-over win from Sachin Dias and Sirimannege in the Mixed Doubles final and Tiana Vidanachchi and Buthmi Galagamage also received a walk over win from Thilini Hendahewa and Kavidi Sirimannage to clinch the Women’s Doubles title.
Amal Edirisuriya, Director General of the Department of Sports Development, Suresh Subramaniam, President of the National Olympic Committee and Rohan de Silva, President of Sri Lanka Badminton participated in the prize
giving ceremony.
