CAVA Challenge Cup to begin at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium today

The Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Challenge Cup 2023 will be held from October 9–15 at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB).


Afghanistan will face Uzbekistan at 10:30 a.m., while hosts Sri Lanka take on Saudi Arabia at 4 p.m.


This is the second edition of the tournament; the first was held in Bangladesh in 2021 and won by Sri Lanka. Six Central Asian countries—Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka—are going to participate in this tournament.


The opening ceremony of this tournament will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at 2 p.m.  and the closing ceremony of this tournament will be held under the patronage of Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe at 3 p.m. on October 15.


Trophies for champions, runners-up, and third-place winners, as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals for first, second, and third place, will also be presented. The eight players who show special skills in the tournament will be awarded trophies.
