The Under-11 cricket team of CCC School of cricket Colombo won the Inter-Academy Cricket Tournament organised by Colombo Premier Cricket Foundation, beating the hosts CPCF Under-11 team by nine-wicket in the final played at CMS Grounds Kotte recently.
The tournament was conducted by eight premier academies - SSC School of Cricket, Oval CA, CRCA, SACA (Moraruwa), RGCA Austrasia CA, CPCF (Blue) and CCC School of Cricket (Maroons) in two groups. CPCF and CCC School of Cricket ended the first round unbeaten and qualified to the final.
CPCF Juniors having a strong batting side, including a double centurion and a centurion in the team were the top contenders and had the edge on rivals CCC (Maroons).
However CPCF batting first found the CCC bowlers quite disciplined and their fielders very smart and collapsed to a meager 44 runs all out, with Nadil Dodangoda three wickets for no runs, and Sandeep Salgadu 3 for 6, doing the damage CCC needed only ten overs to get the target losing just one wicket for 47 runs.
Award ceremony was held under the patronage of Shekar Das of Calcutta Cricket Academy from India, who was the Chief Guest. Manjula Wijeratne, Chairman of Colombo Premier Cricket Foundation, Nelson Mendis Director and Head Coach of CCC School of Cricket, Thisara Dissanayake, Director of CPCF and Neil Rajapaksa, Head Coach – CPCF gave away awards along with the Chief Guest, Das.
Champion team of CCC School of Cricket ‘Maroons’ – Rasindu Jayasinghe (Capt.), Thenuka Ratnayak, Sandeep Salgado, Nadil Dodangoda, Mithila Gamage, Kaveesha Ratnagoda, Kaushik Wanniarachchi, Lindula Kapurubandara, Thinuk Soysa, Hiruka Perera, Jalinda Rajapaksa, Rehan Kollurge and Dimuth Wickramasinghe.
The team was coached by Harshaa Gomes. Following Awards were given away to respective winners:
Best Batsman - Miyuru Bandara (CPCF), Best Bowler - Nadil Dodangoda (CCC Maroons), Best Fielder - Mithila Gamage (CCC Maroons), Player of the Final - Sandeep Salgado (CCC Maroons), Player of the Series - Haamid Afdhal (CPCF).
CCC School of Cricket won the CPCF U 11 Challenge Trophy awarded to winners, while CPCF received the runner-up trophy, CR Cricket Academy who beat SACA was awarded the second runner-up trophy (third place)
