Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) President and international cycling referee N. Karunarathna left for Glasgow, Scotland yesterday (August 2) to participate in the 192nd UCI (Union of Cycling International) World Congress 2023.
The UCI Congress in which cycling presidents from nearly 200 countries around the world will participate will be held on August 3 and at the same time, the UCI has made arrangements to hold the World Cycling Championship on August 13 in Scotland.
Karunarathna, who has represented Sri Lanka at the World Cycling Congress for many consecutive years since 2019, is a South Asian No 1 International Cycling Referee who has participated in more than a hundred international level cycling competitions including Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Cycling Championship as a Cycling Referee.
Meanwhile, Karunarathna says that the administrative problem in the cycling field in Sri Lanka is expected to be resolved with the cooperation of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) at this year’s World Cycling Congress.
