Ceylonese Rugby Football Club (CR&FC), who are completing 100 years of excellence, are set to organize the CR&FC Centenary Rugby Sevens Tournament as part of their century celebration.
The sevens tournament is set to be held from March 31 to April 2 at Longdon Place.
Speaking at the launch event, President of CR&FC Ted Hiran Muttiah said, “The CR&FC Centenary Rugby sevens is probably the most looked forward to event in the centenary calendar by rugby players and fans alike. The response from the teams invited has been fantastic and we are looking forward to memorable three days at the Longdon Place.”
On the first day of the tournament, the Under 19 teams of 12 invited schools will battle it out and they are expected to be divided into three groups of four, competing against each other in a round robin format before concluding the day competing in the Cup/Plate quarterfinals.
On the second day, the round-robin games of the men’s and women’s preliminary round and the quarterfinals will take place with the third and the final day set to feature the semifinals and the finals of all three segments.
The following teams have already confirmed their participation:
Men’s Teams – CH&FC, CR&FC, Havelocks SC, Kandy SC, Air Force SC, Army SC, Navy SC, Police SC.
Women’s Teams – CR&FC, Air Force SC, Army SC, Navy SC, Team from Australia, Team from India, Team from Thailand, Combined team.
Invited School Teams – D. S. Senanayake College, Isipathana College, Kingswood College, Royal College, St. Anthony’s College, St. Joseph’s College, St. Peter’s College, S. Thomas’ College, Trinity College, Vidyartha College, Wesley College, Zahira College. By Harsha Amarasinghe
