Chamari, Harshitha move up ICC Women’s T20 rankings

Women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu and batsman Harshitha Samarawickrama were among the Sri Lankan players who moved up in the latest ICC Women’s T20I
batting rankings. 


Athapaththu moved up two places breaking back into the top ten, while Samarawickrama sits at a career-best 27th moving up 12 spots thanks to her recent form in the home series against Bangladesh during which she was the top scorer with 125 runs in three matches. 


Sri Lanka’s captain also put in some consistent performances totalling 103 runs in three innings taking her to ninth in the latest rankings. 


Sri Lanka’s bowlers also impressed, with left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera improving five spots to 12th in the bowlers’ ranking, after taking four wickets in the series. Sugandika Kumari meanwhile jumped a massive 20 places to equal 33rd, while Udeshika Prabodhani, who was joint leading wicket-taker in the series moved up 21 spots to 38th overall.


The top ten spots in the batting rankings were occupied by Australians, with Tahlia McGrath ranked first ahead of Beth Mooney (2), Meg Lanning (4), Ashleigh Gardner (7) and Alyssa Healy (10). 


Smriti Mandhana is the highest ranked Indian batter at three, while New Zealanders Sophie Devine (5) and Suzie Bates (8) and Laura Wolvaardt close out the top ten. England’s Sophie Ecclestone tops the bowling rankings, while Nonkululeko Mlaba of South Africa and Darcie Brown of Australia, make up the top three.
