Football Sri Lanka (FSL) is set to revive the Champions League 2022 football tournament after a lapse of three years today.
The tournament will run for three months with the participation of 14 leading clubs, FSL President Umar Jaswar said.
Matches will be played at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, Maligapitiya ground in Kurunegala, Bogambara Stadium in Kandy, Matara and Galle.
Crystal Place will take on New Star in Maligapitiya, SLTB face Moragasmulla at Sugathadasa Stadium, and Matara City meet Negombo Youth in Matara in the opening matches.
Two matches each will be played on June 4 and 5 in the opening week of the competition.
The 14 participating teams are Crystal Place SC, Javalane SC, Moragasmulla SC, New Star SC, Pelicans SC, Matara City SC, Serendib SC, SLTB SC, Super Sun SC, Solid SC, Negombo Youth SC, St. Mary’s SC, Saunders SC and Police SC.
The champion team will receive Rs one million and the runners-up Rs 0.75 million. In addition each participating team will be given Rs two and half million by the FSL.
According to the tournament rules, each team can field a maximum of three foreign players. They should have three under-21 players.
