Colombo District Tournament: Thaha Irshath emerge Colombo district champion

The Colombo District 6 Ball Snooker tournament which concluded at the Billiards and Snooker Association headquarters billiards table in Torrington yesterday saw reigning national billiard champion Thaha Irshath of Moors SC coming out victorious in the final with a hard fought three frames to two win over M.F.M. Fazil of POP.   

The tournament also saw the most number of players participating, with 64 from the clubs around the metropolis in action. In the semi final encounters Thaha and Fazil got the better of two players from Ammy BC with the former over coming Susantha Wickrama by three sets to nil and the latter defeating M.S.N.M. Fernando by three frames to one.   

Four players from each of the four district tournaments will qualify to play in the next contest, the final qualifying tournament which is the All Island Lanka Plate scheduled to be worked off from July 27 at the same venue.

Semi Finals –Thaha Irshath (MSC) beat Susantha Wickrama (Army BC) 3-0 (48/17, 50/38, 40/4). M.F.M. Fazil (POP) beat M.S.N.M. Fernando (Army BC) 3-1 (36.26, 25/27, 36/8, 32/13).   
Final – Thaha Irshath (MSC) beat M.F.M. Fazil (POP) 3-1 (27/43, 40/2, 42/17, 18/47, 41/9).
