They didn't know it at the time, but the Australian team at the 1987 World Cup laid the foundation for the dynasty-like dominance the country has had over cricket's most coveted prize. The seven-run win over England in the finals, saw Australia lift the first of the five titles they have won - the most for any country, by some distance. Sri Lanka, led by Duleep Mendis, had a close contest against Pakistan, but would lose all six matches and finish bottom of their group.
