D.S. Senanayake College will have an opportunity to guarantee their place among the teams in the Super Round of the Dialog Schools’ Rugby League Division One tournament when they take on St. Joseph’s College tomorrow.
D.S. Senanayake are on sound footing and will no doubt be coming into the game with confidence after their morale boosting win against fancied S. Thomas’ College last week and are comfortably placed second in Group 1A with 22 points.
For the Josephians, this game is of academic interest as far the qualifying is concerned but will play for pride in the hopes of chalking up only two wins and will also be looking to end the league tournament on a winning note.
D.S. Senanayake, on the other hand, came into the season as underdogs after being promoted to the top division and have so far shown their capabilities as they chalked up four fine wins against more fancied teams in the likes of St. Anthony’s College, Wesley College, Kingswood College and S. Thomas’ College with one defeat against defending champs Isipathana.
St. Peter’s, the other unbeaten side of the tournament with five wins out of five should have little difficulty to chalk up their sixth win and it’s left to be seen what’s going to be the final scoring line.
Much was expected from Vidyartha College in their match against Zahira College last week but they put in a pathetic display as they were soundly beaten 23-03 to suffer their third defeat and it’s left to be seen whether they could prevent from the Petereites who has the home advantage going on the rampage.
