Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group IV matches to start on August 8

The Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group IV tennis tournament conducted by the ITF with the participation of seven countries is scheduled to be held from August 8 to 13 at the SLTA clay courts in Greenpth, Colombo.
The countries in the fray are Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Yemen and host Sri Lanka while three teams from Macau, Oman and Qatar have pulled out.


The seven teams are divided into two groups battling it out for promotion to the Asia-Oceania Group III next year.
The Davis Cup, which is considered the biggest annual international team competition in the world, usually consists of four groups, where each nation has to get promotion from one group to the one above to qualify for the World Group I tier where the final battle for the prestigious Davis Cup triumph takes place every year.
Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup team this year comprises of Harshana Godamanna, Yasitha De Silva, Thehan Wijemanne, Chathurya Nilaweera, Ashen Silva and non-playing captain Udith Wickramasinghe.
