Dellon Peiris to lead Sri Lanka emerging team to Japan

The Sri Lanka Cricket selectors have chosen former S. Thomas’ College and Ragama CC player Dellon Peiris to lead the 15-member Sri Lanka Emerging Players squad to Japan. 


The emerging team is scheduled to play five T20 matches against the Japan National cricket team which is an Associate Member of ICC.


The squad comprises skipper Peiris, some of the talented and up and coming players in the likes of Sakuna Liyanage, Ranmith Jayasena, Sithara Hapuhinna and Danal Hemananda to name a few.


The team is being sent on the request of the Japan Cricket Association to prepare for the forthcoming East Asia Pacific Regional Tournament that Japan is scheduled to participate in this year and the qualifying tournament for the ICC’s Men’s T20 tournament scheduled to be played next year.


Former St. Anthony’s College player and Sri Lanka player Ruwan Kalpage will accompany the team as the head coach while Tharanga Dhammika and Dhammika Sudarshana will be the two assistant coaches and former Sri Lanka cricketer Vinodhan John will be the manager of the team.


The Sri Lanka Emerging team are scheduled to play five matches on May 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 at the Sana International cricket ground.
