Dhanushan and Kaya emerge Junior Golf champions

 K. Dhanushan and Kaya Daluwatte grabbed the limelight, emerging champions in the Boys and Girls categories respectively at the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2022, contested at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) this week.


Over 80 young golfers participated in the tournament which was sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread and held from December 20 to 22.


K. Danushan, with scores of 73,71 and 71 was the overall Boys Champion, edging Nirekh Tejwani by five points, while Kaya Daluwatte notched up scores of 71, 67 and 71 to comfortably retain her title as overall Girls Champion.
Tejwani (78,74,68) and Yannik Kumara (78,72,72) were first and second runners-up respectively in the Boys Gold Division.

Sherin Balasooriya (82,78,77) and Dhevinka Kanag-Iswaran (76,80,85) came first and second runner-up in the Girls Gold Division.


Reshan Algama emerged winner of the Silver Division (Ages 12-14) with scores of 68,73 and 65.


The Bronze Division (Ages 10-13) was won by Kaitlyn Norton, while Revaan Amarasinghe was the winner of the Copper Division (Ages 9 and under).


The Best Players from Outstation Academies in Anuradhapura (Sankanath Hesara), Nuwara Eliya (Imran Nazeer), Kandy (Nisin Gunawardhana), and Welisara (Nirwan Hetttiarachchi) were also recognised at the awards ceremony.
This year’s competition saw the participation of a number of schoolchildren from Ananda College, and President of Sri Lanka Golf, Michael Magala Perera issued an invitation for girls and boys from other schools as well, saying they would be delighted to see their participation in future tournaments. Hirusha Pramuditha was recognised as the best performer from Ananda College in the Gold Division.
