Player-of-the-Tournament – Ravindu Wickremasinghe with the trophy
By Shamseer Jaleel
Trinity College proved their class act in the 7s game when they handed off Kingswood College 33-07 in the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) Under-19 Inter Schools Rugby Sevens 2021 for the Central Province (CP) which took place at their rugby stadium in Pallekelle yesterday.
Having accumulated an aggregate of 131 points in their three group encounters, Trinity entered the final with the Randles Hill School with lot of expectation, but the start was not good for the Trinitians as Kingswoodian Ishara Ekanayake covered nearly 70 metres untouched to score the try.
However, spurred by the early setback, Trinity re-grouped and played like champions and as a professional outfit.
They scored their first try through Trevin Karunanayake with Thamuditha Dodanwatte adding the extras to level the scores at 7 apiece.
Dodanwatte touched down for the Trinitians second try with Ravindu Wickremasinghe converting and taking them to lemons ahead at 14-07.
After the turnaround Trinity continued their good work with tries through Wickremasinghe, Dodanwatte and Bawantha Dharmapala.
Dodanwatte converted two of them to secure an easy 33-07 win and the Central Province Cup event.
Wickremasinghe (Trinity) was judged as the player of the tournament.
Meanwhile Sri Rahula (Shield), Vidyartha (Bowl) and Dharmaraja (Plate) accounted for the other trophies.
