The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, alongside the Ministry of Tourism, will organise the Sri Lanka Sports Fiesta 2024, which will take place from August 16 to 18 in Colombo.
Powered by Dialog Axiata PLC, this event promises to be the largest national sports extravaganza ever held in Sri Lanka and the first of its kind in South Asia.
The mega fiesta will feature over 3,000 athletes competing in seven thrilling team sports: cricket, rugby, football, volleyball, netball, hockey, and basketball and with free admission, all are welcome to experience the thrilling action.
Designed to showcase local talent and inspire the next generation of athletes, the Sri Lanka Sports Fiesta 2024 aims to provide a platform for athletes to display their skills and compete at a high level.
Spectators can look forward to an array of exciting matches, with each sport offering
its own unique brand of entertainment. The organisers plan to make this an annual event, providing ongoing opportunities for athletes and continuous excitement for fans every year.
For cricket fans, there will be intense rivalries and nail-biting finishes as teams vie for victory.
Rugby enthusiasts can anticipate powerful tackles and swift plays, while football lovers will enjoy skilful footwork and strategic gameplay. Volleyball and netball games are expected to be dynamic and fast-paced, with high-flying spikes and quick passes.
Hockey and basketball will also provide exhilarating action, showcasing speed, agility, and teamwork.
Cricket matches will be held at the Bloomfield and Thurstan Grounds while rugby and football matches will take place at the Racecourse Grounds.
Volleyball will be played at the Royal College Indoor Sports Complex and netball matches are expected at Torrington Grounds. Hockey games will occur on the astro turf and basketball matches will be played on the 3x3 court.
The event is more than just a sports spectacle. The sports arenas will be bustling with activity, offering a variety of entertainment options for participants of all ages.
