A knock of 68 inclusive of five boundaries by Trinity College opener Dimantha Mahavithana against Mahanama College, Colombo highlighted the first day’s play in the Under 19 inter-school Division One Tier ‘A’ semi final encounter commenced at St. Peter’s grounds, Bambalapitiya yesterday.
Mahavithana shared a 62 run stand for the fourth wicket with skipper Manula Kulartane to help Trinity taking first lease of the wicket to make a modest score of 228 runs. Mahanama in their turn facing eight overs ended the day on 22 for 1.
Meanwhile Isipathana was on top against St. Peter’s when play ended on day one in the Under 19 inter-school Division One Tier ‘B’ semi final encounter played at the Navy grounds Welisara.
Isipathana after bowling out St. Peter’s for a low score of 128 runs ended the day on 134 for 6 and have already taken a first innings lead which would be sufficient for them to book the berth to the final unless the Peterites turn tables and record an outright win.
The matches will be continued today.
