Dissanayake named overall captain of Sri Lanka for C’wealth Games

International medallist in weight lifting Indika Dissanayake has been named overall captain of the Sri Lanka contingent for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.


The Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka has submitted his name to the National Selection Committee, the Daily Mirror learns from reliable sources.


Tokyo 2021 Olympian Milka de Silva has been nominated as the women’s captain.


Dissanayaka won a silver medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in the 69kg weight class.  In addition, he won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Championship in 2013 and 2015 in addition to bronze medals in 2017 and 2021.  He also represented Sri Lanka at the 2010 and 2018 Asian Games.


 Gymnast Milka represented Sri Lanka at the 2021 Tokyo Games. She is presently training in a university in Tokyo.
