Doctors’ Cricket League begins today

The second edition of the Doctors’ Cricket League, organised by the Doctors’ Cricket Club in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) Sports Forum will kick-off at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala today. 

The Doctors’ Cricket League is not merely a cricket tournament but a celebration of cricketing talents within the medical fraternity of Sri Lanka and aims to foster camaraderie, sportsmanship and healthy competition among medical professionals.

The tournament features five teams, namely, Colombo Super Kings led by Dr. Tharindu Kalinga, Kandy Knights led by Dr.  Rasitha Manathunga, Galle Titans led by Dr. Akalanka Muthukumarana, Jaffna Healers led by Dr. Sritharan Ganesha Moorthy and Dambulla Royals led by Dr. Shehan Niluka.

The teams will play each other in the League stage at the Welagedara Stadium while the third place and final will be worked off at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
In the inaugural edition, Kandy beat Colombo by 61 runs to emerge champions while Galle beat Dambulla by seven runs to clinch third spot.

The match schedule: 
26 July: Dambulla Royals v Jaffna Healers and   Kandy Knights v Galle Titans. 27 July: Colombo Super Kings v Jaffna Healers and Galle Titans v Dambulla Royals. 28 July: Kandy Knights v Jaffna Healers and Colombo Super Kings v Dambulla Royals. 2 August: Colombo Super Kings v Galle Titans and Kandy Knights v Dambulla Royals. 3 August: Kandy Knights v Colombo Super Kings and Galle Titans v Jaffna Healers at Dambulla. 4 August: Third place and final.
