Double titles for Japan’s Kageyama and Hungary’s Gyori

Miyu Kageyama of Japan and Lorant Gyori of Hungary dominated proceedings at the recently concluded ITF Junior Tennis Week 1 Tennis Championship played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.   


Kageyama and Gyori bagged their singles titles first, with wins over Niyati Kukreti of India and Kiran Vairavanathan of Sri Lanka respectively.   


It was an unlucky end to Vairavanathan’s run, having become the first Sri Lankan junior player to qualify for a final in a tournament of this nature in more than a decade.   


In the doubles events, Kageyama partnered by Rio Wakayama overcame Sri Lankan pair Saajida Razick and Dinara de Silva in a tense battle to claim the girls’ title, while in the boys’ final, Gyori partnered India’s Aryan Jit Singh got the better of Kiran Vairavanathan and Chun Tang of Taipei.

Boys’ – Lorant Gyori (Hungary)/Aryan Jit Singh (India) beat Kiran Vairavanathan (Sri Lanka)/Chun Tang (Taipei) 2-1 (6/3, 5/7, 10/8)
