Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has decided to extend the closing date to accept entries for the Nestomalt Mini Marathon (men and women) till January 20.
The mini marathon to be held on January 22 from Kotte to Pannipitiya will kick-off the SLA’s centenary celebrations.
Runners from four South Asian countries in addition to local competitors had started sending their entries which was to close on January 12 but on a request made by those who had not submitted their applications the closing date was extended, according to SLA Vice President G.L.S. Perera.
Meanwhile 15 athletes (men and women) from Bangladesh (3), and four each from India, Maldives and Nepal who are expected to participate will arrive in the island today (19).
The mini marathon will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday from Diyatha Uyana, and go through Ethul Kotte Junction, Sirikotha, Pagoda Road, Nugegoda Super Market Junction, Nugegoda, High Level Road, Maharagama, Pannipitiya, Borella Road, Thalawathugoda, Battaramulla Junction, and end at Diyatha Uyana.
The prize money for the winners of both men and women is Rs 200,000 each, while there will be cash awards for those who finish second (Rs 150,000), third (Rs 100,000), fourth (Rs 75,000) and fifth (Rs 50,000).
