Football Sri Lanka (FSL) President Umar Jaswar is confident of winning another term after a new constitution is drawn up in line with the FIFA statutes, by obtaining a two-third majority of the membership he told the Daily Mirror.

The draft of the new football constitution is in the final stages and it will be presented at a FSL council meeting followed by a Special General Meeting (SGM) for approval after which FSL elections will be held on July 30, Jaswar said.

Jaswar claims that during the past nine months under his Football Restart concept the Sri Lanka team made progress, taking part in local and foreign tournaments.

He said the grants received from FIFA and AFC were not put in a Fixed Deposit but spent for the benefit of the national players to take part in international tournaments with the aim of developing the sport.
The former Secretary of FSL, Jaswar was elected President contesting against Dr. Manil Fernando, winning 96-90.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, FSL was the only sports body to conduct a four-nation tournament following health protocols in addition to taking part in AFC and SAFF Cup tournaments.
