The new Constitution for Football Sri Lanka (FSL) was passed with more than a two-thirds vote at a Special Annual General Meeting held at the Pegasus Reef Hotel in Wattala, with the participation of two FIFA officials and an official from the Asian Football Federation as observers yesterday.

The Special Annual General Meeting was observed by P. Kattel (Head of South Asia Unit Development Department, MA Governance Department and RA Governance Department MA Division, AFC), Sarah Solemale (Senior MA Governance Services Manager – FIFA) and Prince Rufus (FIFA Regional Office Development Manager - South Asia).

The new clause of allocating three votes for a league instead of a single vote was passed with 48 votes in favour while none voted against it.

However, thirteen members abstained from voting. All other new clauses were passed with 61 votes in favour without any opposition.

With the passing of the new Constitution, an election is scheduled to be held on October 23, 2022, under special permission of the Sports Minister, President FSL Jaswar Umar said yesterday.

He told Daily Mirror that a committee comprising two retired High Court Judges and an A-Grade SLAS officer have been appointed to overlook the election.
