FSL to form national pool in preparation for AFC U-23 Asian Cup

Football Sri Lanka (FSL) has decided to form a national pool from August 1 in preparation for the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup 2022 Uzbekistan qualifiers.


Apart from five players the rest of the 18 members in the 2022 Qatar World Cup national squad are eligible to be in the national pool for the AFC Under-23 qualifiers. The rest of the squad will be chosen from the best talent available in the under-19 pool, according to FSL President Jaswar Umar.


There are 11 group in the AFC Under-23 tournament. Sri Lanka has been drawn in Group A with Syria, Yemen and hosts Qatar. The Group A matches will be held from October 23 to 31 in Qatar.


The 11 group winners and best four runner-up team will join hosts Uzbekistan in the finals.
