Final Wrestling selection trial for C’wealth Games

The final selection trial for the Commonwealth Games wrestling team will be held at Pallekele Kandy on April 7, conducted by the The Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka (WFSL).   
A 40-member national pool (20 men and 20 women) has been formed in preparation for the Commonwealth Games wrestling competition which will be held on August 5 and 6 in Birmingham, England.   


The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has informed WFSL they could select a six-member team (three men and three women) for the Commonwealth Games.   
WFSL President Sarath Hewawitharana expects wrestlers to win at least three medals (two women and one man) at the Commonwealth Games.   


Sri Lanka has never won a medal in wrestling in the history of the Commonwealth Games.   


The four sports in which Sri Lanka has won medals at the Commonwealth Games are boxing, rifle shooting, athletics and weightlifting.
