Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) will hold the final selection trial for the World Junior Under-20 Athletic Championship on July 27 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
This competition was earlier scheduled to be held on July 25 but postponed because of a issue with the venue, SLA media committee chairman G.L.S. Perera said.
World Athletics has set July 31 at the closing date to qualify for the World Junior Under-20 Athletics Championship scheduled to be held from August 17 to 22 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Four Sri Lankans have already qualified for the event. They are Medhani Jayamanne (200m women) from Lumbini College, Colombo, Shanika Lakshani (800m women) from Holy Cross College, Gampaha, Tharushi Karunaratne (800m women) from A. Ratnayake MMV, Walala, and Isuru Kaushalya Abeywardena (400m men) from Ananda Sastralaya, Matugama.
The events to be worked off on July 27 for both men and women are limited to 11 finals. They are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 110m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump and javelin throw.
The World Junior Athletics Championships was to be held from July 7 to 12 last year but postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
