Five arrested for alleged assault after Wesley-Zahira football match

Five adults were taken into custody in connection with the alleged assault on a group of school children during the football match between Wesley College Borella and Zahira College Maradana on Monday (07) at the Cooray Park Stadium in Wellawatte. 
The suspects were produced before Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kosala Senadira and remanded till August 17.
The arrested are believed to be adults who had come to support Wesley College and they were produced in court on suspicion of unlawful assembly and causing injuries to schoolchildren. 
The magistrate ordered police to produce the suspects in an identification parade on that date.
Police said an altercation when the two teams lined up and shook hands had developed into an assault. (Dilanga Gomes)
