Five-member Management Committee to overlook FSL

A five-member Management Committee would be appointed by the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe to conduct affairs of Football Sri Lanka (FSL) after a temporary solution was reached between the petitioners and the Ministry of Sports to resolve the dispute.


Yesterday, the Court of Appeal took the case of FSL filed by the President and Secretary for the national and public interest after the Sports Minister reversed the Gazette notification extending the term of office of FSL.   


A temporary solution was reached between the petitioners and the Ministry of Sports to resolve this dispute and conduct an early election.


A Management Committee will be appointed by the Minister of Sports consisting of a retired High Court or Supreme Court Judge, Jaswar Umar, elected current President of FSL and A. F. Seller, Treasurer of FSL.


They will be joined by one accountant nominated by the Minister and one administrative officer nominated by the Minister. This five-member Management Committee will supervise day-to-day affairs and the financial approval until the next election is held .


The case will be taken up in one week and the Court will decide on the date of election .

The Sports Minister may appoint the Election Committee from the Six names approved by the Members of FSL at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on September 22, 2022.
