Five-member team for World Muay Thai Meet

The Muay Thai Association of Sri Lanka have named a five-member team to represent the country at the 2021 Open World Amateur Muay Thai Championships from December 4 to 12 in Bangkok, Thailand.


Nearly 600 competitors from over 100 countries are set to participate in this event.Muay Thai was registered in 2017 with the Sports Ministry as the 64th sport in the country and has been functioning at national level since 2018.


There are 37 clubs affiliated to the association with many of them comprising schoolboys and schoolgirls. In fact, the Sri Lanka Team for this meet includes two schoolboys namely Kasun Gunawardena and Isuru Dilhara, both from Pallebowela National School in Hanguranketha.


Both competitors have earlier won medals for the country having competed at several international events.

 

 

The Sri Lanka Team:
Lakmal Senaratne (Army - 60kg), Kumudu Prasanna (Horana Muay Thai SC - 63kg), Abdul Hafi (IMA SC - 67 kg), Kasun Gunawardena (Pallebowela National School - 48kg), Isuru Dilhara (Pallebowela National School - 51kg) and Priyanka Perera (National Coach).
