Five selected for World Weightlifting Championship

The Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF) will send a five-member team for the World Weightlifting Championship 2022 to be held in Bogota, Colombia in November.  

This tournament was to be held in March in China but the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) decided to change the venue because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sri Lanka will be represented by 11 weightlifters (six men and five women) for the Commonwealth Games and depending on their performance they will be selected for the World Championship, SLWF Secretary G. Nishanthan said.  

A total of 120 athletes will be taking part in this tournament with Sri Lanka expected to field three men and two women.
